Abs ecu
Hey!
Anyone able to replace the ABS ECU in an XJR without removing brake lines? I've read the other posts on this - but I think they all were about the cars that have the ECU sitting sideways... the XJR has the ECU INconveniently located with the screw heads downward underneath the pump and module.
GRR!

Assuming the XJR is the same as the XJ6, then the answer is yes. I did this, although it was a wee bit fiddly, it was much better than undoing the brake lines.
After unplugging the electrics and undoing the mounting bolts, I was able to raise the entire pump assembly somewhat. I then tied the pump up onto a piece of wood resting across between the fender and the front scuttle. I then used a long nosed vice grips to hold the appropriate "bit" from a set of screwdriver hex/torx/ bits. Feeling around underneath the module located the two screw locations and then I could get the aforementioned "bit" onto them. Loosened them enough to be able to turn them by hand, extracted the screws and lifted the module out. Couple of pics attached that might help to explain better.

When I pulled mine I was unable to budge those little screws and ended up disconnecting the lines to remove the module. Even on the bench it was hard to break them loose. But to me it's no big deal to disconnect the lines and then bleed the brakes when done, because I have a lift and use a pressure bleeder. I can understand your reluctance, but those screws sure have small heads.
