The antenna works ok, when it stays up, but frequently retracts which causes most stations to lose signal. I haven't figured out what is causing it to retract by itself. I saw Robert Spinner's video on replacing the mast on an XJR and it looks almost identical to mine, but I don't know where the antenna gets it's signal to extend/retract. I'm thinking there might be a loose connection to the radio, because every once in awhile, the radio pops loudly and drops off, then restarts by itself after a short while. Any ideas?

 

I had this happen to me. During a break at work, everyone was chatting in the parking lot as suddenly my antenna started going up and down with the car off and parked. Very embarrassing as all pointed and laughed at my car.


Turned out to be a bad radio. Not a surprise as they are all junk.

 

Mine is doing it whenever I am trying to use the radio while driving or sitting. I can't count on the stations I want to listen to working, because the antenna drops and cuts them off. Sometimes, it cycles right back up. Other times, it stays down for long periods of time. Occasionally, shutting the radio off and turning it back on makes it come back up, but even that is not consistent. I'm trying to figure out how the antenna gets the signal to extend, then that's where I'll look. I still suspect a lose connection on the back of the radio and am going to try to get at it soon.
