18" will fit. The "ride" all comes to personal preference. You won't know until you try....

I find 17" wheels (X300 XJR's ) w/ Pirelli tooo harsh for my taste so I can't even imagine how harsh would I get w/ 18 rims

I used to have an X300 (now an XJR), on which I had the 20" Oyster Gold XKR alloys. I thought it looked great- and so did everyone else who saw it! Personal preference at the end of the day.

I went from the standard 16" alloys to 18" XK8/R to the 20"- I was amazed how little (relatively of course) the ride was affected. Will post a pics if anyone is interested (!)

I know alot of people arnt too keen on pirelli tyres anyway but i want to try to find some cheap ones on ebay (under £500) and try them out. I have seen 20's on an xj40 (looks rediculous)
Ditto on the 20's. The first thing I did when I got my 2002 XJ8 was swap the brand new Pirelli 6000 Z-rated tires from it with the tires from my 95 XJ6. The XJ6 had almost new touring tires. The guy that bought my XJ6 was elated to see it had brand new Pirelli tires. I don't think he will be too happy when the tread is gone at 18,000 to 20,000 miles.

Where is a good place to get wheels for a 97 XJ6 L. I want 17 or 18's. I don't want the large chrome faced kind. I want something sportier and lighter weight. Any suggestions of sites, or companies that can provide them?

Not sure what part of the world you are from but it is fairly difficult to source aftermarketalloys for XJsin the UK.The bolt pattern (PCD) is very unique- 120.65, where the majority of alloys will not fit. I have seen some peopleput BMW 5 series aftermarketalloys (PCD 120)on - but I would be against doing that.

I believe there is a bigger market for the Jag fitment in the USA, as the PCD is shared buyfewother American cars.

I usually source mine through eBay here in the UK.

...when I sell this one and buy a '97 XJR I'm IMMEDIATLY buying the 5-spoke 18" XJR rims off the '98 and '99 models.
I've got a set of 18" Penta alloys on my '98 XJR that I will be selling on- but I take it you are from the other side of the world (!)

I think 19" on the XJ model would be ideal- after all, the limited edition XJR 100 came with 19" Montreals as standard- which look good:

You should look for a set of 18 inchAsteroids from a 2000-2003 XJR. Nice large wheel but still a factory Jaguar one. I saw them for $350 each online.

hi, ive got a x300 with standard dimple 16's on, ive just bought a set of xk8 18 inch's, but i was told i need to fit 255/40/18 tyres to the rear & 245/40/18 to the front as anything bigger than 245/40/18 will rub on the inner wheel arch, i cannot wait to get them on, will post some pics.
I did the same thing to my old X306. With the rears, you shouldn't have any arch problems with the standard XK tyres. With the fronts I had some arch rubbing (only on full lock), but I just cut away some of the plastic inner arch (not the bodywork arch itself). This is only because I got my alloys with a very good set of tyres.

this is true, I put XJR 18's off a post '00 X308, with 225/40/18R and they still rub on my driver front wheel well. granted, there has been some front end "history."
but only when I turn the wheel allll the way one way!

With a tyre that size there should be no problems with it. I had the standard 245/45 -18 from an XK and that was only slightly rubbing the inner plastic lining (on a full lock). A 245/40 18 shouldn't haven't any problems and you're running 225s (!)

yes but a few front impacts by some not so nice motorists have granted me limited space especially in the driver front wheel well. :/
