Boot locked shut HELP!!
I love the site and just thought I'd drop a line or two as I am now the proud owner of a 1996 XJR.
I have been after one for a couple of years now and now its sitting in my drive.
I do however have a bit of an issue that I would welcome advice even if its merely a chuckle in my direction.
My car hasn't come with very much service history and I'm afraid to say to some of you purists out there that its also converted to run on LPG. Admitedly I am a convert to LPG and due to my mileage being in the region of 20-30k per year this is the only way I could afford to run it without running up the debt equivilent of a small banana republic. I think the saying goes that the only thing an XJR can't overtake on the motorway is a service station. Happy to share my experiences of this at a later date.
My first job was to remove the quite capable factory stereo and replace it with a digital receiver as I enjoy listening to Radio 5 and its only broadcast on MW which due to driving all over the country can be a bit sporadic. While removing the stereo I noticed one of the cables shorting out and a quick test of turning the stereo back on soon confirmed my suspicions that it had blown the fuse.
Now to the problem, at some point in its life the rear locking mechanism to use the key has been removed, only the keyhole remains, the stereo fuse not only powers radio but also the power ariel AND the remote boot release.
Can you guess where I'm going with this?
?
As far as I can make out this fuse is located in the boot!!!!!! So not only can I not open the boot with the key fob or the button on the dash but I can't get in to replace the fuse to make the world a happy place once more!!!!
I would welcome any suggestions as to how to rectify this drama of mine before I have to resort to a large iron bar or an angle grinder cutting in from the rear seats........
Admittedly I can see the funny side but if I have to 'jemmy' the dam thing open there will be tears in my eyes while doing it.....
Looking forward to your replies
