brake lights wont work

i have a 1997 xj sport 3.2 but the brake lights have stopped working but when i indicate left or right or put my hazzards on they flash really fast but if i put my foot on the brake they flash at the proper speed, its driving me mad can any body help?

disconnect one of the tail light assembley and see if the one still plugged in goes back to normal. If not unplug other one and plug back in the one you unplugged first. Report back.

thanks for that but tryed both rear lights and they still didn't work, but noticed that indicators are back to normal but they might go back to working fast tomorrow on the way to work

LEFT hand heelboard fuse box - Fuse # 8, Fuse # 17,
Right hand heelboard fuse box - Fuse # 6, Fuse # 13, Fuse # 14

Then also check the ground in the trunk well.
