Default broken exterior door handle - xj6 1995 - RESOLVED

Hi All,

The exterior driver door handle on my 1995 XJ6 broke off. I happened to have an extra rear door with a good handle, so I took the assembly out thinking that I can use the handle for the passenger door, but looking at the assembly, it does not look like the handle can be replaced by itself. Has anyone been able to change the handle only? If so, what are the steps? If I end up needing to replace the complete assembly, would I also need to swap the new lock with the current one to ensure that my current key continues to work?

Below are pictures of the broken handle.

Thanks for your answers.

I am going to answer my own question. After removing the broken handle assembly from the driver door I found out that the the lock is mounted with one screw only, so moving it to a new handle will not be a problem.
Since I had a rear door handle which has no lock, as a quick fix I ended up replacing the front door handle with the rear one. So, until I replace it with the correct handle assembly, I will only be able to unlock the driver door with the remote key or manually from the driver side.

Thanks for posting the answer.

You won't find parts interchangeability like that happening very often on a Jaguar!

I've amended your thread title at add 'RESOLVED'
