Stereo Help!
Hi,
While I have read the threads on how difficult it is to add modern connectivity to my 2008 XJ8-L, I am posting this to see if anyone has had recent success.
Here is what I know about the car I just picked up: It has 2 speakers in the dash, 2 in the front door, and 2 in the rear door, that is 6, plus 2 tweeters on the front doors near the door handle.
I was told by the dealer this is an Alpine, but think I was lied to. I have a single CD, and no navigation. I have a factory satellite antenna, but no Satellite radio. I do have an option for a CD changer, but not installed.
I would like some advice from the experts here, and tell me what you can about the equipment, and options I might have. Using bluetooth, I can connect my iPhone to the car, it will play the calls in the car speakers, it will play my VOICE mails through the cars speakers, but I cannot play music to the car...
Is my unit really Fiber connected? Is the satellite antenna REALLY fiber to the head unit preventing a satellite add on unit to be connected?
Can I just install a new system with the faceplate in the ashtray, or are my speakers 4 ohms like Audio express said they might be, requiring a gut and re-install of speakers, amps, head unit, etc?
Ideally, all I need is a usb or blue tooth.
I am in Richmond VA, not near al and Eds, whom I called and said the options for my model year are next to impossible.
Appreciate your latest advice - Thanks

Checkout Vreffmov BT dongle. This offers A2DP connectivity but does require the cd changer cabling and power, which may or may not be fitted in your vehicle.

Send a PM to Veffremov and let him know you are interested in purchasing one. I can't remember how much I paid for it know, something near to $300 I think.
He will give you all the info you need to know.

Same problem
I just bought my 2007 XJ8 L (with navigation), and am learning the hard way that it may be quite difficult modernizing this car. I have become accustomed to having a backup camera (perhaps I'm spoiled) and streaming music. I am looking at putting an Alpine 957HD or Pioneer 8100NEX into it, but is there even an install kit for my car? Are the climate controls actually in the stock unit, or are they separate?

Having the Nav unit makes it more difficult to upgrade the unit as more than just AV is packed into the factory Nav/head unit, including climate control. Best way to attach BT streaming for music is to us vfremov's little box.
But it doesn't support phone services via BT. You'd need a factory BT phone unit for that. There are numerous threads on what you'd need and how to add a BT phone module.
There are others on here that have installed a backup camera by using a box in the trunk and splicing into the video feed used by the Nav unit. Check here in this forum as well as in the AV forum for possibilities: Audio/Visual Electronics - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
