Default Car is now possessed...

My car is now self aware and has a mind of it's own..

It has just started randomly switching itself off and back on again when it feels like it..

Just did an 11 mile journey and 3 times it switched off, gearbox light came on , and it switched itself back on!
However on way back it behaved beautifully!

The selector has started 'clicking' every time I touch the brakes however and there is sometimes a clicking noise from inside the steering wheel.

I am suspecting the alarm, immobiliser system. It will only sometimes set with the key (my fob is broken) and sometimes it wont.

My thinking is that the immobiliser is , for some reason, switching itself off.

Is the transponder in the key passive? It doesn't have a power source does it?
Could it be that sometimes the car is 'losing' the transponder?

I used to have Rover 75 that , if the key transponder was shielded, by a key ring or similar, the car couldn't 'see' it and would not run. Move the keyring and it would start.

Does any of this sound feasible?

I had a Honda that would shut itself off if the key transponder signal was blocked/overridden by another key in my pocket. Make sure you don't have other transponders...and maybe even turn on Bluetooth on your mobile devices.
