Hi everyone,

I am new owner of a 96 XJ6 - love the car. Loved Jags for ever!

I'm reading through the Passport To Service Manual and it states to replace BRAKE FLUID every 2 Years and ENGINE COOLANT every 4 years.

Now, I do want to do what is needed maintanance wise, but do you guys adhere to these guides?

Many thanks and I'm looking forward to be a part of this quorum.

Kindly,
Mike.

I tend to do these two by the book. Brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water from the air) and will raise the boiling point and corrode brake parts. Antifreeze uses up it's corrosion inhibiters and so the cooling and heating system will degrade if the fluid is not changed.

Doug is right and beside it is proper for any brand of car to have this periodic performed for preventive maintenance. it will prolong the life of your jags braking parts and preserve the longevity of your water pump and components when you do periodic maintenance accordingly.

I agree, too, especially about the brake fluid. It is one of the most commonly neglected services.

Funny how all the Asian and Euro manufacturers recommend it yet none of the USA car makers do.

Cheers
