Default drive train "shudder"

Just got back from a road trip of 800 miles. My car is a 1996 VDP with 107K miles. During the homeward bound part of the trip the engine/transmission? "shuddered" maybe eight times. Both while using the cruise control and not. At all instances it was "at speed". The grade of the road does not seem to be a factor. It has never happened while driving around town.

Any thoughts out there?

Many thanks.

My thoughts are:

Prop shaft centre bearing, odd at that mileage, but not impossible from an age point of view.

Torque convertor "lockup" slipping. How long since the fluid was changed??.

Not much else bouncing around the brain in regard to a "shudder" at speed.

Thanks Grant. You always seem to be there.

I have been driving the X-300s since '95 when they first came out. My other one is a '95 XJ. It has 220K miles on it. Runs like a top.

I bought the VDP two years ago and changed all of the fluids then. My gut doesn't think the center bearing on the prop shaft is involved. I'm ignorant about the torque converter lockup.

Would a "dead" spot on the TPS be consistent with the symptom?

Many thanks.
