Oh dear, again the Clutch Slave Cylinder CBC9674 is no longer available from the UK, and apparently only FTE versions are available from eBay, listed for GBP162. However, Repair Kit (BAU4781A), virtually two pieces of rubber (marked "Made in England"), is still available for GBP 4 to 5 a set. Am wondering which one to go for, after my bad experience of premature failure of the FTE clutch master.

This cannot be corrected unless and until the whole assembly (brake booster, the clutch master and the pedal box) is removed and re-installed.
Removing the pedal box isn't that big of a job. If the spring is overstressed it may be the next failure, are springs available?

For the price difference, I'd try the seals. A slave is easy to rebuild, there shouldn't be that much labour involved.

Yeh, but not just the price but the likelihood that the new slave cylinder may have been on the shelf for an unduly long period due to a very high price tag. At GBP162, it is almost double the price of a clutch master cylinder for the X40 (GBP85). The "Made in England" label also inspires more confidence.
