fuel feed issue
Hi there,
I was given responsibility for minding my fathers 2001 XJ Sovereign 4.0 ltr whilst he was on holidays.
He parked it in his driveway, facing forwards on a 20% decline (quite steep), and disconnected the battery.
I have turned up each week for 3 weeks to reconnect the battery and start the car and idle it for 3-4 minutes.
This weekend...nothing. Firstly when I turned the key I got a screeching sound. Then, it cranked but wouldn't fire. Called the RAC and they said that the battery was holding good charge - it must be a fuel issue (two different RAC trucks told me the same thing). They suggested I get it towed to a Jap specialist.
Only problem....car is in his back yard, and the driveway is so slim I could not roll it down the side of the house without damaging car or house. It seems almost certain I need a mobile mechanic.
However, I'm not keen on me getting hit a big bill whilst someone with no Jag specific skills fumbles their way around his car.
The more forward thinking I can do - the better.
Battery went flat last night but I can and will trickle charge. I still wont be able to get it down the driveway safely so probably need a mobile mechanic.
What to do?
Should I get it jacked up so that - if nothing else - the car is flat and not leaning forward on a steep downhill decline? (Might be a problem if or when we start it).
Should I get fuel filter checked? Injectors?
Is there a methodical way to do this?

2001 is a XJ8 X308 series with a different engine then the XJ6 X300 so it is a different animal . The bodies are the same so that portion of the fuel delivery should be the same but under the bonnet will be different . Suggest repost in X308 section . There is Jaguar X308 TSB's with a no start troubleshooting tree below . In the how-quick-links at the top of the X308 section you will find many documents that will hep you out . By checking some of the things you can better define the issue of no start and post your findings to get you going faster .
