Fuel System Problem
I have a 1997 XJ6. I recently did the fuel pump and fuel filter and now my car has a stutter and rough ide. Hesitates slightly on acceleration from idle. I wanted to know is it possible that the vehicle has air in the fuel system, and if so is there a bleeder valve on the fuel rail or a way to get the air out of the system?
i would have thought any air in the fuel line would simply be pushed out through the line and then into the tank via the return line, where it would then become a non issue as it would just join the air in the tank.
but i dunno.
but i dunno.
Motorcarman ( Bob ) and others has some great experience in this area
There is some piping details inside the tank
There is a check valve inside the pump that is sometimes not good as a new pump
On fuel pump change inspect the connector sockets for burnt at the pump motor and replace with new the fuel pump relay ( you can swap for test ), they get damaged by aching as the pump goes out
There are 2 fuel piping versions for the X300 distinguished by if you have 1 single rectangle vapor canister only on the left just fwd or rear tire , or 2 one on each side
No jacking required
See page X of the upcoming Jaguar 801s Doc

Important note ;
The fuel pump will only come on for 3 seconds only on ignition key rotation , the fuel pump will come back on for the duration of your drive by the crankshaft position sensor seeing engine rotation
The fuel rail all the way back to the fuel pump inside check valve should hold the 43 PSI fuel " charge " different than an injector cylinder " priming " squirt
The arrow on the fuel filter should be pointing car outboard as flow direction
There are small O - rings down inside the fuel filter side fittings that unlikely may be out of place
You fuel routing is on page 60 of the 801s doc linked now , the details inside the tank if needed to go there are a little different than the pictures like the check valve
