Default headlight swap

I have an x300 and want to swap the headlights for the x308 lights. I know it's possible but apparently the wiring is slightly different. Anybody able to give me any advice on this swap please?

Rob

i cleaned my lights as per that website's advice and upgraded to brighter halogen bulbs.
I can now see down the road!

It is good enough for me now, so I personally wouldn't mess around swapping lights.

As I recall from a salvage yard, there is a short harness between the headlight buckets and the main harness. I was wondering if the only difference was the headlight end of that harness and perhaps if one installed this short harness from the X308 with the X308 headlights that it may be "plug and play" and not require any wiring modification?

Has anyone checked?

Default Headlight swap

Jim Butterworth from Jag-lovers forum did a pretty good write up on headlamp change here: Jaguar XJ6; Jaguar X300; X308 headlights

I had them changed when I had my car painted, so I'm not sure about the installation. I had to change the inner bulbs and had to take the whole assembly out by undoing the grill. I was not willing to risk undoing the lights individually and breaking the ball sockets.

I changed the front and the rear lamps as the clear lamps looks much better.
The front the sockets and wirings are different.

IM still waiting for a set form an XJ8 to arrive from the UK, to fit to my XJ6. I've got no problems with a little rewiring, however if the mountings are different it may become a bigger project than I intended. (Hoping not) .
I have already changed the tail lights for a pair from an xJ8 and besides from adding an extra hole for a globe the XJ8 doesn't have they were a straight changeover and much better.

I was looking at some of the XJ8 and XJ6 short headlight harnesses in photos on line, and it appears that the harness (not bulb) connector may be physically the same (but the XJ6 connector is yellow I think , and the XJ8 version I think is blue).

So it may be possible that these short harnesses are plug-and-play, or the pins could be moved to be plug-and-play versus having to cut wires?

One would have to have a set of XJ6 and a set of XJ8 headlight harnesses to test of course.

The connectors are indeed different. I changed mine on the 95 years ago but I adapted a set of HID projectors from a Stype into them instead. WAY better than anything halogen you can slap in them and they have cutoffs so you dont blind people. (something I hate when people just put in HID bulbs IMO should be illegal)
