Default how do I diagnose a leaking rear crank seal?

Following my recent oil post, I did an oil & filter change today.
I drained 8 litres of Castrol and 3.5 litres of ATF. I put on a new Jaguar oil filter, 8 litres of new Magnatec, and 3.5 litres of new synthetic ATF.

I am worried I have a leaking rear crankshaft seal.
There are a few drops of oil on the flywheel housing and it is a little oily on the rear lower left side of the engine towards the rear (the induction side). It is not dripping, but so it is a small leak. The exhaust side of the block has no oil.
It isn't coming from the filter housing - that is dry.
Previously it has been bone-dry underneath. I have done 5000km in 3 1/2 months and give it full throttle alot, often hitting redline, and certainly more this past week since fitting a K&N pod which gives more top-end power.
I think I will ease up a bit on the throttle.

Really clear diagnosis is not simple on these.

Engine oil on the engine side of the flywheel is a fairly sure sign, but oil splash from the oil filter change can sit in the webs of the LH side of the engine block, and blow back at MAch1 you travel at.

The oil sender unit is a known weeper, that would make a mess over time.

The o/rings on the oil cooler hoses also leak.

I seem to remember yours is a 3.2ltr??, in which case it has the elbow that by-passes the cooler and it has 2 sleeves inside and 4 o/rings to leak, mine did, and a simple task to sort. generic o/rings, nothing special.

The rear seals are NOT a known issue. Fresh oil often will soften a neglected seal with time.

I would also clean the breather filter etc inside the camcover. If it blocks the engine cannot breath, and oil leaks will appear in some very strange places. Very common at HIGH revs.

Grant, I think you gently chide me for revving!
Thanks for your reply.
Where is the breather filter in the cam cover? I would expect it to be clean, because the car had a new magnesium cover about a year ago under the previous owner, and the mechanic is conscientious. But it may be blocked..

Mate, I reckon the BA for that would be a very sensible upgrade HAHA.

That thing over here would be mid to high 20K easy.

Me chide you, NO WAY. We got this dumb 50kph suburban and 110kph highway, but our mostly crap roads make that really testy mostly.

Even giving the beast stick off the mark will get you pinged, a real Nanny state we have become.

The breather setup is attached inside the camcover, directly inward of the pipe sticking out that the breather hose attaches to. I simply washed mine "reverse" with petrol a few time, and although grubby, I had no real reason to believe mine was blocked, but the cover was off, so it simply made sense.

My spouse reckons I deserve an upgrade, and the S Type R has been discussed. So maybe I have been a good boy after all, mmmm.
