Default How much do you use your J-Gate D/3/2?

Let's do something fun and find out if there is a difference between LHD and RHD use of the J-gate.

I use it often, and usually rest my right hand on the shifter in its left side D position.

I wanted to try out posting a poll, let's see how it works.

I'm not a fan of polls on the forum because they are usually inappropriate where a question for discussion would be better. However, this is an excellent example where a poll is entirely appropriate.

Both my current Jaguars are after J-Gate but when I did have them, I rarely used the feature. Why? because I always felt the design layout was more suited to LHD than RHD. Moving the shifter towards the driver for the 'manual' side in LHD just feels easier and less awkward than it does moving it away from the driver in RHD.

Declaration - I'm left handed and this may affect perceptions!

I am also left handed and being in AUS have a RHD car.
I almost never use the J-gate just as I almost never used the L and S in any car i have previously owned.

In the cars I have had that had a Tip-Tronic (sequential) transmission I used the much more often as that just felt like a better manual control you know more sporty like where as 1-2-3 or L-S feels more like just a set in low and go.
just a mental perception.

All the cars have that had the Tip-tronic style feature had it on the left side of the selector and i would not say it felt odd at all because of that reason.
to me pushing it away to activate sport mode kinda just felt right.

I make regular trips from the Brisbane area to the Darling Downs which involves crossing the Great Dividing Range.
The two main crossings are Cunninghams Gap and the Toowoomba Toll Bar both of which are relatively steep on the eastern side.
On the return journey down the range, I always use the J gate to select lower gears to take advantage of engine braking.
Saves excessive wear and heating on the brakes.
Cheers

Trending slightly towards more use of the J-gate in LHD cars. Although there is some doubt if Pete has a LHD car! The J-gate does seem like its better suited to the LHD cars to me. But some RHDs claim to use it often, and some LHDs don't.

Why didn't Jag mirror this assembly for the RHD markets? Since this J-gate has a pretty wide lateral span, it makes a difference in the feel of using it compared to a narrow setup like some of the tiptronics. Notice that the Jaguardrive dial shifter location is mirrored on the console for some RHD models.

Feel free to add to the data if you haven't. The more the better!

simply because if they mirrored it it would not be a "J" gate at all. would be a backwards alternate universe J

in any car i have driven that has had a gearshift operated manual/tiptronic mode it has always been the same.
push it away. toward the eft. toward the passengers side.

even in the local aussie built magnas and falcons.
