Hey all, I did a quick search and didn't find what I was looking for,so here it goes. When I bought my 95 it only came with one key. And I do not believe it is the "owners key". In the last two days it has started to refuse to slide in either the door lock or ignition. I've meant to get the one key thing worked out before I had real troubles...... procrastinators procrastinate.
After reading up on line and emailing the closest jag dealer, about 100 miles away I thought I'd turn to the experts here.
My questions , is what Im looking for a tribe key? Can the key code be determined from the vin number? Can someone other than a jaguar dealer make me a key, I'd really like to avoid a trip to Indianapolis ( the closest jag dealer).
Is it reasonable to believe that I could figure out the code by looking at the key
I've read there are eight positions that are one of three distinct cuts?
Lastly thanks for tanking time to read this and I appreciate any help or advise given.
I do tend to over think things maybe I am making this much more of an obstical than it needs to be

Tibbe keys are easy to decode, and you can have them ordered and cut by mail order. Here is one that has a very good tutorial on decoding the key.

Also, US X300s have no immobilizer and so keys need no transponder.

www.triple-c.com is where I purchased my spare key from. It's a good way to go.

You can get generic 8-cut tibbe key blanks from this guy in AZ and He'll cut them to your code for an extra $20. You can email him a picture of your key to confirm decoding.

I needed backup keys as well but had more time so I ordered "Jaguar" blanks from china for something like $6 each delivered, and then shipped them to Triple-C for cutting. Perfect results.
