Jaguar x300 3.2 vibration at speed
Hi people, I was hoping somebody on here might impart some of their wisdom on a little issue I am having with my 1995 XJ6
Basically there is sometimes a bit of vibration coming through the steering wheel when I get to speeds over 50mph
It doesn't happen all the time and sometimes it disappears after a while of consistent driving over 50mph.
However it happens often enough to make me want to address the situation.
Additionally, i was using the car earlier today and after a few minutes of driving the anti lock light came on the dash and stayed on until I parked the car and switched the ignition off. I started the car up again and the light was no longer on. But I havent driven it since.
Do people think that this might just be a coincidence? Or do you think the 2 issues are linked?
Could a dirty/faulty ABS sensor cause such a vibration?
I'm hoping it could be something as simple as that but I'm more concerned about the vibration to be honest.
Would just like a few pointers as to where to start my investigating.
Thanks all.

First step is a tire shop as it may have lost a balancing weight
The target for the ABS sensor does spin , link coming
Look for tire delamination and to be safe rotate tire to the rear
If the tire does blow out , safer in the rear
You can sense if the vibration comes from the new position in the rear
If the wheel is stuck on the hub studs as mine you can bang on the inside ( tire only ) with a heavy block of wood , The X300 lug nut / hub interface is special as an aged interference fit that corrodes , not like other unworthy cars
The spinning target ( relunctor ) is the toothed item # 8 as this is a front X300 front hub pic
The sensor is fixed and stationary as the mount bolt is item # Y with the sensor hole at the top
Caution if removing an ABS sensor as they break easy and expensive
There is a trick from Motorcarman ( Bob )
The front wheel bearing area is different on the later X308 ( V - 8 )
for the front X300 item # 8

Nothing to do with the abs sensor or reluctor ring on the axle will cause a vibration in the steering.
The only possible connection I can think of between the two problems you have would be if the car has been standing for a long time. Is it in regular use?
if not, your tyres can develop flat spots which throw the balance off for a while until they have been used regularly again. Similarly, corrosion can build up on the reluctor ring reading to poorer signal generation which will cause the abs ECU to declare the signal invalid. It resets every time you start the car, and won’t come on again until you have reached around 30mph and the problem is detected again. Will likely clear with resumption of regular use.
If your car has been in regular use, disregard the above and have the wheels rebalanced, then scan for codes re the abs.
