Default Manual Shift Assembly

This would be a rare sighting as the pictures below feature the 5-speed manual gear shift towers. Which version is the factory original setting, the first or the second one?

The first picture is copied from an eBay listing. The second one is what is on my converted manual XJR.

Found this picture from the factory brochure. So the base ring might be different to enable the boot to be tucked in.

My 95MY manual XJR6 doesn't have the Jaguar symbol between the gearstick gaiter surround and the ashtray. Maybe your gaiter was from an XJ40, which might have had a different surround. The Jaguar badge looks like it is filling the space for the gearbox mode switch on an auto transmission car.

My converted manual, originally an auto, has the same little Jaguar badge, which I think is evidence that Andy is right .
