Hi all,

I've discovered another issue with my car, wondering if anyone has any ideas what the problem could be. I'm having difficulty getting it into either reverse and 5th gear. Reverse is obtainable after a few attempts but 5th seems almost impossible. All other gears can be selected as normal. Was wondering if anyone has had this before or knows what the issue could be? Obviously if its a particularly difficult/expensive fix I'll just live with it. The car is a 1994 3.2 X300.

Would appreciate any advice.

 

When was the last time the oil was changed in the gearbox?

 

Never hurts to change the oil, would definitely try that first.

It may well be the selector fork is worn but you won't know until you get in there.

 

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure when the gear oil was last changed - I have service history but the book is in the boot and the boot won't open so I'll have to sort that at some point aswell. Going to give it a service soon so could do gear oil as part of that.

I've discovered that I can get reverse and 5th (with difficulty) if I remove the ski-slope, allowing me to get the lever further over. Could this be a gearbox mount or something?
