Default Is this Motor Trend article just wrong?

Hello all,

I searched on here, but I could not find the answer. In this article on Motor Trend's website, it says that there are only 400 XJR's for the States and that it has an "adjustable suspension." As seen here 1995 Jaguar XJR - Road Test - European Car - Motor Trend Magazine

First, I find it pretty hard to believe that there are only 400 here (I would assume that is regarding to only 1995), but are there any numbers to how many actually came here in a yearly break down? Secondly, what adjustable suspension are they talking about? This is the only place I have seen this mentioned regarding X300's. Am I completely missing a feature of the car that I could be using?

Regards,

Jeff

No adjustable suspension. The editors must've gotten their wires crossed.

About 6500 XJR/6s were built all told. I think about half came to the USA. Not sure how many were 95s.

There are a couple threads that have some of the production breakdowns if you wanna do a quick search

Cheers

Thanks Doug. The only production numbers I saw were total production per year, not individual market numbers.

I've never seen any market breakdowns either

Great reading, thanks Jeff! Spot-on mostly, and funny too.

Makes me want to own an XJR6 now! Uh oh....

Should my next Jag be an XJS or an XJR6????

Tough call. I had an XJS for several years before the XJR and really enjoyed it.

If you want to match the performance of the XJR/6 you'll need to find a 6.0 litre XJS. A typical 5.3 won't come close.

Actually, I'd have to say that my XJR/6 does everything as good or better than my XJS....yet I still miss the XJS. It had a more Jaguar-ish feel.

Cheers

XJS for sure! I had one with the 5.3, is my XJR faster? HELL YES, but the xjr doesnt FEEL as good as the XJS did....in fact, NO car has ever felt as good as the XJS did when driving. Very comfortable with amazing driver feedback in the suspension and wheel...I miss my old XJS every day, but then the gas pedal in the XJR puts those sad memories into bright futures!

Yup! Whatever faults, the XJS just has a great feel when driving.

Ever seen the XJS with the XJR/6 motor conversion? A link was posted a couple of months ago.

No, I have not. But that sounds like one of the best things in the world. My goal for when I make it big was to get a nice XJS with flying buttresses in the rear. And dropping a big old 5L supercharged XJSS engine in it lol. 510hp in that tiny body sounds like a blast.

Sorry ... brain fade. It was an E-type .. Big money was involved. Very professionally done.

But *somebody* out there put the XJR/6 engine in an XJS as well. Can't remember the name but it was quite a job

Around a year ago here in Australia there was an XJS for sale on ebay with an XJR6 motor and gearbox fitted. Sadly I have too many cars already...
