Hello,
I am new to this forum but have been reading it for about a month now trying to educate myself. I just inherited my father's Kingfisher blue 1996 XJ6 Vanden Plas. I took possesion last Monday evening and love the car. My father loved the car but rarely drove it as it was ususally under cover in the garage. When I tell you this car is in showroom condition I mean perfect, it just turned 21,000 miles. In trying to read up on this site about things to look for and checking everything I could think of, all I could come up with that is wrong is the headliner is just beginning to sag in the back. I am not looking to sell the car but I was amazed how little these cars command being that they were $65-70,000 new. My question to you all is are there many out there in pristine condition with this low mileage. I too have it in the garage and really want to drive it but find myself wanting to preserve it.

Thanks,
Joe

Weekends is exactly what I was thinking since it's not good for the car to sit idle too long either.

Thanks,
Joe

Thank you...I love it and it's funny you say that, a friend stopped by this past weekend to see it and after going over it said "I can't get over it, this car looks as if it just rolled of the showroom floor."

Joe

ps...if anyone is interested there is a black 97 VDP just listed on craigslist (philadelpia) with 73K and at least looks to be clean.

Welcome aboard. Take Doug's advice if you want to keep it on low-miles...because once you drive it...you won't be happy in anything but another X300!

So true...I've driven it to work twice (the only 2 days it hasn't rained here in a week) and ran a couple of errands over the weekend putting about a hundred and fifty miles on it so far, and what a treat it is!
My everyday driver is a 08 F250 Super Duty with a manual trans, and although it is a beautiful Lariat edition and was my first choice for a vehicle, you can imagine what a nice change this car is for me.

OK...I've had the car not 2 weeks yet and I'm experiencing my first electrical problem that I've heard alot of you speak of. When I got in this morning the radio was stuck in CD mode and wasn't responding to on/off, volume or radio. I could push the tape in and that would work. I drove the car to run some errands and after parking at one stop and getting back in it worked perfect, but when I went to turn it off when I got home, it was again "stuck". If someone could direct me to a thread that addresses the radio and how to fix it I would greatly appreciate it. If my father was alive I could just hear him saying: "for 16 years everything worked, you've had it 2 weeks and the radio doesn't work."

Thank you,
Joe
