Default No throttle response

Hi, I'm a new user and didn't find a specific answer to this question using the search feature, so I hope I'm not asking a common question.

I have a 1995 XJR with 85,000 miles. The problem I am having is that the gas pedal sometimes doesn't respond while driving. For example, hold a steady speed of 65, and trying to accelerate to 70, I can't push down on the gas pedal - there is physical resistance to it's movement. I have to let off of the pedal and then push again to get more gas. This also happens while using cruise control - the car will slow down below the set speed and then lurch back up to set speed, only to drift down again. My dealership says they can't recreate the problem, but I have it daily. Any ideas what could be wrong?

I've not heard of that symptom before dane. Be patient, it sometimes takes a couple days to get some intelligent direction. any chance you can do a quickie video of both and post? I love mez a good video.

The fact that you feel resistance at the pedal suggests to me that the traction control system is being activated.

I'd try unplugging the traction control and see if anything changes. If the problem goes away you'll know you're on the right track. With the unit unplugged you probably get a warning light on the dash but that's no big deal

Cheers

Try cleaning the throttle body, you can end up with enough deposits to the blade.bore, and or shaft to cause sticking and rough operation. Although it is usually only coming off idle. Use throttle cleaner and your wife or kids toothbrush. Spray, brush and spray again till clean and only do when engine is warm cause it will be very very hard to start if you do it when cold after you clean it

OK, I'll try the throttle body. I usually have the dealership do the work on my cars (I'm handy but really busy) so I'm not familiar with the process of doing it myself. Are there good step-by-step instructions available online? I'm willing to tackle this, but don't want to make it worse.

Thanks.

Default No throttle response

Hey peoples, got a lot of tips without signing up but I need a lil help now. I'm sure someone can help me. So I own a 95 xjr, it was over idleing at 1700rpm, when pressing on the gas peddle the rpm would respond and go higher, so issue was that the throttle return spring wasn't pre tensioned anticlockwise. I opened it up, tensioned the return spring, reinstalled it and idle became perfect at 600 - 700 rpm, but strange issue now is that there is no response to the rpm when I press the gas. I'm guessing I missed something simple when reassembling. All throttle wires move and return the pedal back but no rpm response. Thx for reading
