Owners age - for fun ;)

As in the tittle, what age group would you guys class yourself, I just wanted to see the variety we have here of the X300 owners. Basically, is it just the ol' gentleman's car, or not?

Maybe I'll start, I'm 26 and my wife is 24, and I always wanted a Jag, although when my wife saw pictures of X300 she hated it, but when we went to see it, she fell in love with it.

Me 63. Grumpy one legged old fart.

Her 61 and the light of my life, Jags include, and NO she does read this stuff.

Toooooo many Jags to really still have the "warm and fuzzies" for any particular one, They were/are ALL awesome in their own way.

Ziggy 11-13-2012 07:33 AM

31, on my first Jag after many years of German metal - thoroughly enjoying it despite the 'foibles'!

Roger95 11-13-2012 07:46 AM

60 soon to be 61 have owned Jaguars since late 40s after 20 years of Alfas.
Junior is 28 and looking to replce his Cadillac with an XK8 coupe.

mgb4tim 11-13-2012 08:25 AM

45, and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

McJaguar 11-13-2012 08:30 AM

i'm 40-ish.... on my 2nd Jag. still turning all my own wrenches,

cbharley10 11-13-2012 08:34 AM

My wife and I are both 40ish here, this is our first Jag and has been our pride and joy.

Great looking solid car, as long as you can do some of your own wrenching and dont mind the fiddly bits that come with the territory! ;-)

I've had a MGB since 1979. I really wanted a Jag XJ6 when I found out what a bargain they are in the US. Got mine for $3500 last January with 73000 miles & never been in the snow. My wife likes it too!

I do all of my own work on the cars.

JTsmks 11-13-2012 11:53 AM

49....for another 3 weeks!

GatorJoe 11-13-2012 12:00 PM

46 and it feels like a perfect age for having this car.

Todd951968 11-13-2012 02:21 PM

44 and my first Jaguar. My dad has had an XJS for many years and I've driven it and done some maintenance on it for him but think they are too much to care for.

The XJ6 seems great so far, for the few weeks I've owned it. One thing is that it really slows me down and calms me while driving it. I mostly drive high strung/hard core Porsches and BMWs so this is a real (nice) change of pace. I'm not "racing" to get to where I am going as much when I take the Jaguar out.

EZDriver 11-13-2012 04:55 PM

I'm 77. Have had my 95 XJ6 for over eight years. My wife (68) liked it so much she wanted a Jag of her own. So two+ years ago I bought her a 2000 XK8 conv. Both are pretty much daily drivers except when I ride my motorcycle or drive my old pickup.

Back in the mid 70s I bought a 1959 XK150S drop head coupe. It needed a complete restoration. I completely went through the engine, three 2 in SU carbs, trans and overdrive. But not being a body man and other pressing problems I sold the project. Something I wish I hadn't done. But I had other projects since like a Long EZ A/C.

zej 11-13-2012 07:03 PM

30. Bought my XJR 2 years ago at 28. I still get asked if it's my car when I go to pay for petrol...

ballyheen 11-14-2012 04:11 PM

Age 73

My wife and i are both 73,lived most of our working life in Canada, both used to driving bigger cars,i purchased a xj6 the beginning of last month,i have fiddeled around getting little things done to it, such.i winterized it, i changed the air and oil filters, and changed the oil,the car is driving beautiful, i have never heard a car so quiet, the problem i have right now is i am going to have to sell it,as my wife, will not drive it, she figures its away to big for her,i have taken her out twice in it ,but she say she feels nervous, i did not think it would bother her, as she had all kind of experience driving big cars, but then again she was not 73,so im not going to try and force her to drive it,but we have decided to go to one car at the end of the year, and for two reasons it will not be the jaguar,1st reason i have already told you, 2nd reason, i would have to go every Sat with her for groceries, and when we happen to run out of millk or any thing else, you know who would be left to go ,so we are not going to let that happen (ha ha ) so im just going to bite the bullet and sell the jag as much as i like it,and by the way i didnt feel 73 when i was driving i felt 23 HaHa ,just a bit fun :icon_dance-disco::icon_dance-disco:

vvvvvvvvvv 11-14-2012 04:30 PM

I'm 29,
and I've yet to have the pleasure of driving my xjr as it's been in the shop for the past 1/2 year!

JTsmks 11-14-2012 04:38 PM

I love when people refer to the XJ6 as a big car. Parked next to my Lincoln LS my XJ6L is about 2" narrower, 5" inches shorter and only 2" longer. The LS is a "mid size" car and looks HUGE next to the XJ6L.

Perhaps on the other side of the pond...! Over here, they're still on the large side, although significantly lower than pretty much anything modern.

JTsmks 11-15-2012 07:05 AM

Right you are! they would be plenty big outside of the US, sometimes I forget these forums are international! : )

Chavid92 11-15-2012 03:51 PM

im 19. bought my 1995 Vanden plas when i was 17.

JackJ 11-15-2012 04:41 PM

I'm 41 and have had mine for the last few years. They are the best cars I have ever owned and they are the easiest I've ever worked with.

shaune 11-15-2012 08:13 PM

38 and on my second Jaguar.

Joe Reed 11-15-2012 09:39 PM

63...and the XJ6 is the first British car I've owned that wasn't an MG :) ...although I also own a '78 MGB...

5tevie 11-16-2012 08:34 AM

I'm 62 with a wife who is 2 years older and I bought my first Jaguar a couple of years ago after 40+ years of wanting one. Since then there has been a kind of love/hate relationship but I ain't getting rid of the old girl just yet. I'm keeping the Jag too.

turnerdhr 11-16-2012 12:11 PM

Some things sound more impressive when measured in Centimetres rather than Inches. ;) LOL

On topic, 6 months older than the 'boy' JimC64. He reminds me on a regular basis. :(

entwistlecymru 11-16-2012 03:52 PM

28, first Jag (94 XJR) but my 47th car. It's also my thirstiest (I've never seen 7mpg before), my whiniest (thanks to the supercharger - a turbo diesel isn't the same) and the quickest! I'll be a Jag owner for a long time - X308 XJR is next on my hit list

x300man 11-17-2012 04:35 AM

68 both wife and i on third jag first 1966 3.8 s/type never got it going right, almost gave it away. second 1987 3.6 xj40 round headlamp model loved, but always liked look of x300 had her 4 years now going to garage for front suspention rebushing (poly) and yearly MOT cannot wait to her back as been of road 15 month, poor u/k pensioner

^^^^ Yes, that! The XJ being referred to as the big jag is probably just relative to the XK. Modern cars seem to be much bigger, but I think much of it is headroom. I'm a short guy at 5'7" and I can see how a 6' or taller guy would prefer a modern car which all seem to have a higher arched roof. One styling trend that I do think is excessive is the ever-taller boot lids. I can see to back up in my XJ. Most modern cars now you really do need to pay that extra cost for the optional parking sensors and back-up camera. If you need to carry home that many groceries, you're too fat. Ever expanding waistlines are probably the reason for wider cars with more hip room. I briefly owned a Lexus LS400 but I did not like the seats because they were too wide and flat for my skinny bottom.

Oh, and back on topic, I'm 43. I grew up in the era when if a young person had a 4-door car, it meant your father got a new car and you got the hand-me-down. More recently when I went to help my nephews and nieces get their first cars, they actually wanted 4-doors. A car salesman told that's what most kids want today. Times have changed and a four-door sedan doesn't necessarily say anything about your age or family situation anymore. XJ's may have originally sold to mostly older men and women who could afford them, but as they trickle down into the used car market, it seems that all sorts of people, young, old, wealthy and poor are buying them. Obviously, styling-wise they had a broader appeal than their original price tags.

Wow, ok, I must be weirdo then (well, my wife keeps reminding me every day, but she is one as well), because we prefer 2 and 3-dr cars. And she can easily see the 3-dr as a family car, so I'm not going to complain :D My other car is Euro MK2 Ford Focus 3-dr. Had it for nearly 5 years and it's rather tempting to get another cheap XJ6 and stick all the running gear from it into that Focus...

TopHatChef 11-17-2012 08:14 PM

I'm 21, but I've had a Jag since I've been driving.

doc 11-19-2012 06:21 AM

47 years old on my second Jag First in 2003 a 90 Sovereign , 95 XJR since 2008

I actually like the 90 Sov better seemed to be roomier and a plusher ride and better economy but the xjr is growing on me

I have since extended the front seat rails as I am 6,3 tall and very long legged my wife is 5,10 tall

I think the newer interior of the X300 style car robs interior space as the 90 Sovereign didn't have air bags

Had a few Benz,s before the Jags had to learn the hard way LOL 70 280CE 74 350SE 80 450SL 86 560SEC in that order don't even look at Benzes now

I like the look of the current 5 series but waiting till the new XJ gets a few years old would love a new diesel XJ makes the same power and a bit more torque than the XJR6 I own now love the new diesels

Wife had Citroen C5 diesel now Jeep Grand Cherokee 2007 diesel I liked both of them the Jeep is very roomy and that merc diesel engine is one sweet engine but love my Jags am still waiting to find a late model XJS with a 6.0 engine they are a bit expensive second hand still here in Australia

SRL1990 11-23-2012 12:33 AM

22, had it since 19. Handed down from my gramps at 100,000 miles. Going to pass it down to my younger bro and hopefully get a XF or 2008 XJ.

x300man 11-23-2012 11:44 AM
