Hi 1995 xj6 Daimler paint colour in plate LEV/783

i have checked this code and it appears that LEV can be either steel grey mica, or steel grey metallic or steel grey pearl

Does anyone know whether these are actually different colours. I got my paint shop to mix up some LEV which they labelled steel grey pearl and it has a much redder tint than my car which is more of a metallic green.

I am wondering if the mica gives the paint the green tinge ? Anyway any advice appreciated

The colour chart I have found does not mention mica for the steel grey (but does for outer colours), so I would go for just the plain metallic.
This is from an Australian website, but should be the same.

According to the 'A' Pages (maybe North America only?) there is ONLY ONE LEV STEEL GREY.

This is for the North American Parts Catalogue so I don't know ROW.

I am not sure about the differences between mica, metallic and pearl. Maybe mica = pearl? Is mica a finer particle version of metallic? Thats what I assumed.

Looking at my 1995 USA color chart I see that LEV Steel Grey is listed as MICA metallic as opposed to standard metallic as in Pete's chart above (labeled "Poly"). My chart does not use the word Pearl for any of them although I think I have seen some colors listed that way in other sources.

I have a subtle perception that the paint chip in my brochure and in Pete's picture above look to be more similar to your new LEV paint sample on the card Matt. I see the faint reddish tone compared to your fuel flap. Along the transition between Titanium and Rose Bronze but closer to Titanium!

Sorry if I'm not helping much. But I do see the difference and it doesn't look like a very good match. You may have age related fading of some of the reddish components of your Steel Grey. Or a difference in metallic level. Plus, I like to pull out the paint color chart once in a while! Its an interesting research tool.

Thanks everyone for help - seems that there is one paint colour for the code LEV but given different names in different markets. Simple problem identified I think - the paint mix was incorrect and the shop is going to do it again hopefully gets it correct this time.

There IS a difference between metallic and mica/pearl (these last 2 seem to be the same)
see

but reading Richards reply it seems that the primer colour you use is very import too.
