Default Replacement key and remote fob

I bought my first Jag last week, which only came with one key and one remote. Will simply buying a blank key from Ebay or similar, and having it cut at an auto locksmiths work? How would I go about making sure the transponder matches?

With regard to the fob, will a basic Ebay purchase work? How about a second hand fob? Would that be easy to reprogramme?

I am based in the UK.

Any help much appreciated.

The " key " is the frequency , 433 hz or ? . I think it is different in Europe . Also does the key have a RF chip in the plastic grip ?

Thanks , Parker

The key appears to have a transponder in the top of the key. How would I go about finding out the frequency?

Key Fob:
UK is 315 Hz (314 Hz for Hong Kong), elsewhere is 433 Hz.

Key Chip:
You need to find a key blank with the right chip and cut it according to the code. Bring your existing key to the locksmith and he would be able to find out and match. I imagine that this job is easier to get done in the UK than anywhere else, as X300s in the US and elsewhere do not have immobilizer and hence no chip in keys.

Thanks for all your help, so far. I have found a second hand remote key fob. It wasn't cheap, but should do the job.

Will this key do the job?
Fits Jaguar XJ, XJS, XJ8 ,XK, XK8 Sovereign Transponder Key + New Chip ID13

Aside from the logo, is this key any different?

Well this is a very interesting thread regarding keys and fobs. Just purchased my 96' VDP and it came with three keys (One Black/Two Green) and two Fobs. One key (The black one) I believe to be the Valet key which will only run the ignition but won't open the trunk or glove box. And the two green keys being full access keys. Neither of the Fobs seem functional but could just be a battery issue but are both missing the battery door so the battery is exposed. Will look forward to additional information and will relay same as I explore the fob functions. As far as the keys are concerned they are unusual to say the least and don't think there is anyone locally that could "Cut" a key that looks the way these do!

Default Tibbe key cutting

My Canadian VDP also came with only one key and no working fobs....found the Saab fobs on eBay which have been working fine for three years now.
I obtained 2 replacement keys (non-chip) from
http://www.keys4classics.com/
which is located in Australia. Didn't need to send my key; the order process includes an excellent guide for duplicating the key.
Reasonable prices and fast delivery..

Mind you, keys without chip cannot be used on UK's cars.

Default ...almost perfect..

I believe that the vendor can supply "chip ready" cut keys which can have the transponder inserted and programmed locally...😆

Default Key Fob Repair

Spoiler

Thought I would post this, been trying to find a reputable key fob repairer in the UK, tried the ebay route, bit of a scammer, took lots of time, but finally got my money back. then http://www.remotekeyrepairs.com/ popped up on a Google search. The guy (Paul) is superb, a really genuine guy. Has lots of positive feedback and its a "no fix no pay" operation.
Sent my dead fob to him, and where others had failed he succeeded. Programmed to the XK* a treat, still poor range, but it was like that when I sent it.
So if you have a faulty fob, give this guy a try.

Regards
