Default Replacing ignition boots, or ignition coils?

hi everyone, my mechanic said I would need to replace the ignition boots on my car. What is the difference is replacing just the boots vs replacing the entire coil but price. I dont have any check engine light codes for the coils, but I do feel a shake in park, and mechanic said it was the boots that need to be replaced. any help would be appricated, thanks.

The coil itself is one of six bakelite cylinders that slide through the top of the valve cover and generate spark. The boot of the coil is the conical shaped rubber tube on the bottom of the coil that houses the spring which conducts the spark from the coil to the sparkplug.

Boot replacement kits are available from Motorcars Ltd and other places I am sure.

If you are familiar with the system you should remove the coils and visually inspect the coil bodies as well as the boots for cracks. If the coil itself is cracked it can cause the loss of ignition to a cylinder. If the boot is badly damaged it can discharge the spark into the valve cover too. Also, if the sealant at the top of your coil is bubbled or heat damaged it will allow the electricity to escape and dissipate the spark. The coils are a crucial part of the ignition system and damaged coils can have ramifications all over the car.

A boot kit from Motorcars Ltd is about 95USD I believe. They have the coils too.

Msg me if you need any more info.

ML, changing the boots is easy, like jackj says look for cracks, but if they been in ther for awhile mighjt be just as wise to change out and be done, it was recommend to me to also use some dielectic grease on new one, before slipping them back on plugs, the ones i got from Napa auto parts came with new gasket for inginition coils, gasket help keep water out of plug bays when washing your engine, use a little sil-glyde(silcone) on the gasket good from -20 to +600 F
