Default A risky post on oil

I expect that this oil is unsuitable for my X300 3.2?

TRIPLE QX 5w30 Fully Synthetic (For GM applications) Engine Oil 5Ltr

Too thin I imagine even in the chilly UK. It's on special and is thus tempting. The brand may be unfamiliar but I trust it.

According to TSB 12-58 (available at https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-s-b-s-27319/), fully synthetic 5W30 is okay for naturally aspirated applications. I'll let others chime in with their experiences though.

And now we run the risk of a huge oil debate

But thanks. I guess I pays my money and takes my choice.

If Jag says that 5W30 is OK, and the API and/or ACEA certifications are OK then you're all set.

Reading the TSB makes me feel uneasy so for the sake of ten quid I think I'll just go with a different oil. Probably a 10/40 semi-synth rather than 5/30. and teh bonus is I can use it in my other car as well.

The TSB requires:

the oil meets API SH/CF and CCMC G5 specifications.

I don't think the oil you were considering meets those.

That was one reason I got cold feet and decided that a semi-synth is probably the safer bet. Helix HX7 10/40 is the one I was going to get on reflection.
