Default Side mirror doesn't work when trans. in reverse

This is more of a curiosity thing than a plea for help.

I notice whenever I put the transmission into Reverse and try adjusting the side mirror(s) it will not work. Would seem weird that it's supposed to do that especially since the manual makes no mention of it. Works just when transmission is in Park or Drive. Maybe next time you are out in your x300 you can test this for me please. Mine is 1995 XJR.

Until I sell my 1992 Buick Riviera that is tarped in the driveway, I have to reverse the XJR behind it (parallel park) into the garage.

Got me.

Mine is a 12/95 XJ6, and the mirrors work at any time, key in or out, any gear, engine on or off. So by that the mirrors are "hot" voltage supplied.

Same for the S Type.

Maybe its a northern hemisphere thing?????, haha.

If you have reverse dip mirrors in that year, it would make sense that adjustment is locked out in reverse.

On the X308 reverse dip is activated by selecting reverse gear, toggling "back" on the mirror adjuster while right is selected. The RHS mirror will then dip 7 degrees to help you see the curb. LHD markets.

Mine does the same as the OP - I adjust it before I back up, when I put it in Drive, IIRC, it reset itself to it's original position. Now, I guess I need to figure which computer went afoul.

Hmmm.

I think mine does the same thing. Can't remember. I'll verify later.

I don't like the mirror dip feature, nor easy exit seats and steering wheel adjustment, etc. so I turned everything off with the switch on the steering column and haven't given any of it a though in years !

Cheers
DD

I loved the reverse mirror tip, I had it on my 96 Crown Vic. I used to back down a long driveway, and it was really helpful. I could easily see the edge of the driveway.

I've seen a concern where the mirror doesn't dip in reverse. The best I can remember is that on the X300s you have to tap down on the mirror joystick while in reverse for it to go down. It will return to its original position when the shifter is moved from reverse. The system does not dip automatically as newer cars can be programmed to do. I'll have to check my car tomorrow cause my curiosity has the best of me right now. I don't like the feature either and never use it.
