Default Thermostats

Just in case anyone is interested in cheap thermostats. I ordered this listed as "API" brand "wholesaler close out/private label" from rockauto for $4.25 and to my surprise I received a Wahler "made in Germany" thermostat! Now it is 75°C not 82°C as listed but this seems like a deal so I ordered two more for spares.

Hey maybe I'm being thick here, but won't the 75°C stat open too soon and prevent the car from warming up/entering closed loop plus be a bit cold in the heater dept too?

just sayin'

My heater still warmed up rather quick when the old thermostat was failed and only shut 2/3 of the way, so I don't see that being an issue. Temp guage still goes to "N"

The thermostat would just open sooner and the car take a little longer to warm up the last bit, but as the fan turn on point is the same the car should still warm up to it's normal temperature.

I grabbed a few of those thermostats and mine weren't Wahlers...

They are Motorad's, made in Germany. Actually the sticker on two say Made in Germany, the third says Made in Israel, but all are stamped "Germany" on the stats themselves. Mine are 180* stats. It's still a good deal at half price, though.Jiggle pins are there and they seem to be of good quality. No gaskets tho.

Well that's kind of a bummer, maybe shipped from a different warehouse? All 3 I ordered were the same. Motorad are still good quality though, and all the ones I've had were Israeli so it's nice to see some German ones.
