Thinking of selling my xjr

Well, for one point of reference, I found two XJRs (1995 and 1997), one of which I bought, with a quarter of your mileage. Both were willing, non-distressed sellers at $6,500 - $6,800.
Neither had any cosmetic deficiencies beyond a little driver's seat wear or broken side mirror switchgear. Both were mechanically essentially flawless.
If you love it, keep it, because it probably won't be worth much cash.

Yeah, the mileage is a significant part.
Case in point: if you peruse the completed listing in eBay, a pretty clean example sold for $3,700. That, too, had 168,000 miles. Add another 40,000 miles of depreciation on there, if I had to guess, I'd guesstimate a trade occurring around $1,750 - $2,250? That said, I don't spend a lot of time shopping for really high mileage examples, so this is, at best, a mildly informed WAG.

These cars hold their value miserably, which is why I bought it.

I'll side with Randy on this one. First, two years ago it was a 15 year old car, now its 17. you also put over 30k in 2 years, or more than 15k/year. The older Jag market is soft. The only cars that are garnishing any attention are the low mileage cream puffs with 500 page service history (joking about the number of pages).
200k miles puts a lot of wear and tear on items we don't usually see or notice. One way to put things into perspective for yourself is take it to a jag mechanic for a complete diagnostic. I will bet that after hearing the results, you will tend to agree with Randy's initial estimate.
For today's cars 150k to 200k may not be a big deal but for a car built almost 2 decades ago it puts its immediate future in question.
I hope you are not offended. After all, you did put the question out there. I know many people who are so in love with their cars, they ask ultra high price in hopes there are no takers. They then use that as an excuse for not selling the car. I'm not saying that it applies to you but realistically a 17 y.o. Jag with 206k miles is a sub-$3k car.

I have to agree.
We know that Jags are durable so high miles may not be that big of a deal to *us* but it becomes much harder to attract buyers from the general marketplace. And, let's face it, 200k miles is quite a bit....enough to scare off most people. In the eyes of the world even low-mileage Jags have a poor reputation.
I've been deliberating what to do with my XJR (145k miles). As it stands I think I *might* get $4000 for it....and what can I replace it with for $4000? A clapped out Honda Civic? Might as well keep it. If I get something else it'll be nice to have it as a second car. They come in handy from time to time.
Cheers

Doug:
In spite of your record of reliability, as defined to be not leaving you stranded, I maintain having a spare when you drive a Jag is good policy (even if it is another Jag, or two) , so you have time to work on the snigglies without having to get it back on the road in the same session!

100% true.
Not only less stressful....I prefer a medititative, relaxed approach.... but when the car *must* be back on the road on a tight, non-flexible schedule you often find yourself with fewer options as to the repair itself. You might be tempted to simply pre-order and replace your turbo-encabulator ($$) or truncated immobilizer ($$$$$) rather than having a go at repairing it yourself, for example.

Lol.
It is a dilemma. Sometimes those "snigglies" get me down. I have other words for snigglies too. But, what to do? Selling one to an uninitiated is no easy task. And someone in the know knows what troubles to look for! I might be stuck with my sixes forever! I figure one or the other will become a donor.
But I don't have an XJR yet. Hmmmm. New spark plugs in yours, eh Doug?
Proudly and forever stuck to my XJ12 though! Do you realize how much that car is worth???

This thread has got me thinking this would be a good time to make an offer for an XJR!
Actually, if I take on another Jag, I would have to go XJS. However I would also prefer to downsize the fleet. SMG, how about I give you BOTH of my AJ16 X300s for your 95 XJS! You would still have one left. Then you would have two more Jags to sell off! What a deal for you!
