So i upgraded my system today to some modern tech.
its an 8.8” ultra widescreen android 10 system.
it has all android features, reverse camera, CAR PLAY, DAB+, TPMS, it has 4G and i have a sim card in it so i can get live traffic on my maps and use.
its a really good system and has all the bells and whistles.
also have some steering wheel controls for it.
really happy with it.
atm it is only temporary mounted as i am snot sire how to mount the screen best.
i do like it down low in the radio position but its always going to look aftermarket addition, and when the car is in park the gear lever blocks some of the screen.
i was thinking i could mount it up top above the airvents but then there is the issue of how to run the ribbon cable and mounting it nicely up there too and then would also need to make a blank faceplate to cover the single din hole where the unit fits.
the screen seperates from the unit and is connected by a flat ribbon cable.

I think that you should mount it where it is now. I do understand that the gear shift lever will be in the way.
If you choose to mount it above the air vent I guess that you will have to cut out some of the wood trim (ouch) near the vent to get the ribbon cable up there. As far as having having the DIN open yes you can make a blank faceplate or simply put back the original Jaguar radio.
I have a similar shifter knob as you and really love it.
Why is your check engine light on?!
BTW, your steering wheel might be on the wrong side.
What type of electronics is that on the front left side of your center console?

i get what you are saying in all regard and i do agree where it is now is likely the correct position it should be.
if i was to relocate it i would not be able to put back the original radio as this unit is a single din unit which the screen is then attached to. I would need to try and tuck it away somewhere else.
my check engine light is on as the the key was turned to on but the car was not running.
The shifter knob really is nice i love it.
the gadget on the left of the console is a lighter power adapter thing. It has 2x usb ports and 4 x 12v lighter ports. I have the cable run up into the centre console and hardwired into the lighter power.
and my steering wheel is on the correct side. Just the way Jaguar intended it!!!

I know understand that the screen is attached by a ribbon cable to the head unit which is in the single din.
My radio has a separate microphone for phone calls. As you probably already know the air vents assembly easily comes out. I pulled out the vents assembly and ran the microphone wire from behind my radio through the air vent opening and then easily was able to put the air vent assembly back in. I mounted the microphone inches from the air vents assembly. In your case you can run the the ribbon through the top portion of the air vent assembly and mount the screen above that. I am assuming that the ribbon is quite thin and I am sure you can get it come though the top of the vents without damaging the ribbon in the long run.
Either way, please post picture of the end results.

will certainly post pics.
not sure exactly how good the install will end up looking but i can tell you i am loving the unit so far.
i think that maybe it might be too much effort for what it’s worth to mount it up top and i would probably have to drill holes in top of dash to secure it. And i really don’t like doing things like that.
i have reverse camera, dab+, tpms, 4g sim card for internet, bluetooth elm327 for torque app.
@cdma this answers your question as to will if fit in a x300 from another similar thread.
they have many different sizes and the screens are connected by a ribbon cable so can be mounted elsewhere if you make a mount and run a long enough cable
currently just wired into factor speakers,
but will be upgrading in the future to a good system.
will use the optical out, run it to a DSP, then run that to an AMP connected to sub and speakers.

also i have seen mention of the AGAMA launcher being the best, which does look really good and i have used it, i plan to look at CAR LAUNCHER PRO which seems 10000x more customisable than anything else as far as a launcher goes.
and was thinking,
i could remove clock, move the screen up a bit, and then find somewhere else to mount the door lock switch and the hazard light switch.
not sure if i want to do that, or if i have the time to do it ATM either.

Are you sure that if you remove the clock and below that your screen will fit flush. You certainly will have to cut the slope a bit.
I am interested in these launchers. Only having a monitor for a short time I never knew they even existed.
My question is how do you get it onto your monitor? I have an iPhone and an android head unit.
Well no, it won't make it mount flush but it will move it up a bit, put it on less of an angle and reduce the amount the gear lever sits in the way.
hense why i am not sure if it is worth the effort as it would require a bit of work to mount the hazard switch elsewhere and it does look ok where it is now.
seeing as though you have an android unit (can i see pics of how you have it set up?) just use the app store and download one of the launcher apps.
AGAMA and CAR LAUNCHER PRO seem to be the two most popular athough there are a bunch.
when you install the app it will be set (or there will be an option for it to replace the home screen) and then it becomes the default launcher rather than the standard one.
there should then also be an option in the headunit settings to select the launcher app so if you have multiple installed you can change which one you will be using.
I don't have the app store. Reading more closely, my read unit has CarPlay and Android Auto.
Maybe I can download the software and then install it on my stereo using my cell phone.
no i doubt it.
not sure if it possible to change the launcher on a non-android system.
its some kind of OEM OS that it has and is likely the way it is and that is all there is to it.
Ok so i have decided to take a break from my idle issues and work on something more fun.
i have decided i will remove the clock unit and mount my screen so it sits a little higher.
i will move the hazard light switch and the door lock switch to under the dash near the headlight controls.
Put it…..
got it mounted……
now just gotta make a panel to cover the gap down the side cus of the curve in the ski slope.
it doesnt look factory but it looks great….
now to work out what switches i need and what wires to connect and move the hazard switch and door lock.
i have checked the wiring diagram but i really need to check the connector pin out for that unit.
so.
typing this out to make sure i got it correct.
so for door lock / security i will use a switch and an LED
- blue illuminated momentary switch (lock/unlock). 3 pin. GND (B) --> Module (SG) , 3rd pin to dash illumination (RK)
- LED (security light). Module (S) --> Fusebox (BK)
and as the hazard will be sitting next to it i will mirror the same style for the hazard lights
- orange illuminated push switch. 3 pin. GND (B) --> Module (YR), 3rd pin to dash illumination (RK)
- LED (on/off flashing indicator). Module (YP) --> Fusebox (NO)
@Parker 7 sorry for tagging you but i see you are always so helpful and seem to understand wiring diagrams well.
i was looking and came across a switch from a BMW E46 that is exactly what i need.
i cannot find a better wiring diagram for it and i am unsure if it will work.
i know it does not have a flashing security LED and that is fine, i can wire that in seperately.
but i am not sure how i could wire this in to get it to work properly as i think it is 1 connection short on the hazard light and not sure if i could double up one or not.
do you have any idea if it is possibly to make this work? or do i need to keep looking for better option?
i think i can see common ground #2
dash lighting #6
security module #5
hazard into BCM #3
hazard out from BCM #4
so am missing hazard out to fuse box. and not sure if i can do anything.
as on our cars it runs seperately to the fuse box but on the e46 it runs to the common ground.
i can't see a way to make it work.
also any idea what the connector is called so i can try and find one?

So playing around with the wiring i have seen that the hazard lights all work properly when the switch is activated (yellow/red —-> black (gnd))
even when the other wires (yellow/purple —-> brown/orange) are disconnected.
i see on the wiring diagram they connect to a load fusebox to module via load at the switch.
they get a voltage between .5 and 1.5 volts when hazards are flashing. I have no idea of their purpose and what load they are connected to. Do they just power the hazard indicator light? As that seems silly cis that can be powered from the switching wires.
i am not sire if it safe to just bridge these wires or not as it is live power from battery and will head to the bcm.
i think it controls the flashing of the switch indicator light. It is not enough power though to light up a globe by itself. Atleast not a LED

made a little unit to house hazard light switch and indicator light, and an all close switch and security indicator light.
2 momentary led halo switches and 2 led indicator lights.
switches wired into dash backlighting.
unit is a plastic circuit board holder box, covered in leather which i coloured oatmeal to match interior.
not exactly factory but a nice result none the less.
I have also just completed installation of a double din audio unit into my XJR and am also left to deal with the displaced hazard & lock switch.
Both are momentary switches with the hazard also incorporating an indicator light as you have also discovered.
I have only just started the search for suitable switches ( short on time at the moment ) and am curious as to the two matching switches you have used.
Whilst I am pleased with my installation, I do plan to further refine the side panel install when time permits.
