Default Won’t shift to drive. Restarting in neutral

I have a 1996 Jaguar vanden plas. The problem is shifting into gear. The car has been running fine until she started just shutting off. I figured it was the fuel pump or filter. Tuned out to be the filter ! Ok cool it’s been 4 months. Hurricane hits New Orleans now I’m forced to get it moved (from one side of the house to the other ) I have a neighbor help me pull it which he pulled with his truck. Mind you the car is dead it’s been 4 months. So I hit the safety switch and put it in neutral so we can pull it. Cool I fixed the fuel filter. Now it’s time to put it in drive and ride away..... no. She starts just fine but when I shift and get to neutral she tries to restart herself. Idk what to think. Help me out! Tell me what you guys think

So you start it in park , let it idle , then move the shift lever to neutral , the starter engages again

Not able to proceed to the drive position

There is a lever lock solenoid and the relay is just fwd of the shift lever box

In removing the wood ski slope the square chrome surround of the sift lever boot is fragile

I’m gonna check it out !

also do You think it can possibly be the alternator?
It has been dead for months with battery connected.

I just read something that said a bad alternator could trip the computers.

Can you let it idle to fully charge the battery

Red Charge light stay on ?

The voltage gauge on the dash is very accurate

A fully charged battery is 12.75 volts

Trying to find a contributors pic of the shift lever box area

Your not in park switch is the small one with 2 rivets and the disconnected pigtail wire

The linier switsh is the long black rectangle box on the right of the shift lever

The 2 blue stripped relays are the shift lever solenoid and the key barrel lock solenoid relays
