Default wot issue

My 97 XJR at wot in sport or non sport mode shifts a little below 5000 rpm. I was inspecting around and found this throttle cable unit cracked. Can it be an issue? It sometimes doesn't move or rev up when I press the gas pedal. Should I be looking for a tps issue? thank you

The GM Hydramatic 4L80E automatic transmission is electronically controlled. Full throttle upshifts are controlled by the kickdown switch under the accelerator pedal. from memory (20years ago) they should be initiated at around 5000rpm because they need to be completed before the engine hits the rev limiter at 5,500rpm.

Your cable does look damaged and so could stick causing other issues.

Thank you I just replaced the cable which was quite a bit of work. I think it snapped when I was replacing the actual unit the cable hooks up on. I cant start her up yet because I'm waiting for new exhaust manifolds so hopefully this fixes some of the idle issues it was having.
