hello everyone, I have a 1996 XJ6 and when I put the key in the ignition and turn the car on I get a fully noise coming from under my dash like a buzzing sound for like 5 secons and thne goes away, sounds like to noise of the reach motor. And then I just noticed when I shut the car off I hear the noise again and the memory on my driver seat does not work, but the passanger does. Then as soon as I open the driv er door the seat starts to work again. Anyone know anything on this? It has just started to happen, thanks.

 

Will all these symptoms stop if you defeat the EZ Exit feature at the switch on the side of the steering column?

Does the tilt/reach feature of the column operate? Its common for the drive cables to shear off, so the motors turn but they don't drive anything.

Memory seat problems are often caused by faulty potentiometers in the seat. Near as I can tell its a big job to replace them. But, there are other possible faults. My own memory seat does some strange things but I really don't care about the memory seat so I just set all three buttons to the same setting a forget about it....and therefore have never delved into the details of repairing the system.

Same for EZ Exit. It bugs me, so I leave it "off"
