XJ6 windshield wiper dead
Hello Fellow Jag fans!
We own a lovely, well-kept 1996 Vanden Plas. We have been driving it for going on two years now and love it. We are new to the forum world. I (Mrs.) have been researching here for a couple of hours and am so impressed, that I decided we need to join!
Our top problem right now is that the windshield wiper is dead. We have been working around the problem by using Rain-X and/or not driving it in the rain. Our "work-around" is not working so well, due to changing work schedules. It is time to solve the mystery once and for all!
I have found several threads that have suggested some things to try that may help. I will definitely post Thank Yous after we have given them a whirl.
We have already checked fuses, relays, motor (must ask the Mister if I left anything out).
Symptom: Died one day on the way home in the rain. Hasn't worked since.
Thank you in advance...

Does the wiper motor come on when you hit the switch? If so check the linkage between the motor and the wiper blade.
If the motor doesn't come on, and you checked the relay's, fuses and the motor, I would suggest checking the switch. Also make sure you are getting power to all those items mentioned.
Attached a schematic diagram for the wiper system if it will help.

Try this
Hello VDPlease,
Turn on your wipers and try adjusting the steering wheel tilt. My 97's wipers would only work if the wheel was tilted all the way up. After investigating, I found a very weak ground connection on the steering column had let go.
I have described the fix on the forum a little while back. I think that a lot of Jag owners have replaced their wiper mechanisms unnecessarily because of this flaw.
