XJR wood veneer
Considering buying an XJR (X300). Going to look at a car in the weekend. Noticed in the ad that it has quite bright wood veneer, and also has wood around the instruments dials. I thought all XJRs had very dark wood veneer and black plastic around the instruments dials. Do you think it's retrofitted in this case or could you specify your XJR with bright wood work when new?
The car in question:
Jaguar XJ R 4,0 l. kompressor 1995, 136 000 km, kr 149 530,-

All the XJRs I've personally seen had the very dark wood (I call it "black wood") and no wood around the instruments.
However.....
Your exact question has come up before. I don't recall any firm conclusion but Jaguar is known for subtle trim changes depending on market and model year. For example, USA market XJRs had bright window trim instead of black window trim.
I do vaguely recall that some of the last XJRs may have been built with the lighter wood, no "XJR" embossing on the horn pad, and perhaps a couple other small changes. This car, though, is listed as a 1995 model, so..... ??
My gut feeling is the lighter wood on this car is a (very attractive) owner modification but that's pure speculation on my part.
Cheers
