01 XJ8 Battery light on and "not charging" message on display
they didn't check well enough, check all the alternator posts/wiring, battery earth, false earths under the bonnet )heavy black cables running to brake servo side and twin fuse boxes tuther side - finally the engine earth under the car between the rhs rear of engine and chassis. Did you do any diag on the alt before rebuild? how old was the old battery?
Hope this helps

There are two different types of internal voltage regulators. My problem was solved by replacing the internal voltage regulator with a "high voltage light output" regulator from the Mfg. of the alternator.

I wonder how many alternator replacements "fixed" a problem because hauling the alternator out abraded the contact points well enough to re-establish a good earth.
Thanks for your help. I forgot to mention that
I just pressed the reset button and the message disappeared . I drove for about 25 minutes and everything is OK. The battery is charging.
When I start the car again the message comes back. Maybe I need to reset the computer with the OBD2 tool ?
