Default 1998 VDP electrical problem

When I leave my 1998 VDP parked for 3 to 5 days without driving my battery goes dead.
When I connect the charger to the battery I hear the click of whats sounds like a relay dropping and my CD player loads.
I am assuming that the CD player is draining the battery as it seems to be in a ready state.
One other problem I have been having which I have started a thread several months ago and got no serious answers on was that from time to time I have noticed that the radio will turn itself on and play until the battery is drained.
I have even seen the antenna come up and what ever was in use last radio or CD player it starts playing.
This is getting to be a big headache and ANY SERIOUS help would be great.
Thanks Vic

I have read your previous posts. I strongly recommend posting in the 308 section, many people just read that area.

I would go over your car carefully, and see if anything else works with the key out. Maybe you have an ignition switch acting up?

It sounds like it's not turning off even the key is removed. The actual ignition switch is a plastic piece, not too hard to remove, and does not involve a new key or any programming.

Vic,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X308 forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model.

I'm sorry you didn't consider any of the replies to your earlier post about the radio to be SERIOUS. I thought both Thermo and I had made sensible and plausible explanations for the unusual phenomena.

In your position, I would long ago have either run a new feed to the Audio and/or added an auxiliary isolator switch to the circuit.

Graham

Vic:
Have a look at the archives concerning the ignition switch horizontal action- That MIGHT be the root cause.

You need to know for sure which circuit is drawing amps when the ignition is off.
For that you need to connect a voltmeter, set up on amps, to the battery and remove fuses, 1 at the time until the amp draw decrease.
time consuming but pretty simple.
Once you know which fuse (s) is removing the load on the battery, its just a matter of seeing with electrical equipment are on this circuit and disconnecting each one until the amp draw stop

I've had a look through the wiring diagrams and I am sure you have a bad ignition switch, or (less likely) a wire intermittently shorting to ground, simulating a bad switch.

The ignition switch doesn't apply power, it grounds wires to activate relays to supply power. I'd try wiggling the switch while the key is in the off position and see if the radio or interior lights power up.
