Can anyone tell me what the wires adheared to the windshield around the mirror are for? Looks like a couple of contacts which are under the mirror cover. I"m installing a newer mirror and am going to have to rewire the connector. Just wondering what these wires are for. The newer mirror has wiring for the rain sensor disc, but that's not what these wires are for. Thanks a bunch for any help!! Rick

 

Are you sure they're not to do with a heated windscreen or maybe the electrochomatic feature on the mirror?

 

Mine had a microphone stuck up there for the hands-free phone. I never used it so I cut the microphone off (it was very small) and stuffed the wires under the headliner. Maybe that's what yours are.

 

We bought the car used, and my wife always drives it, so I haven't noticed them until I started working on the mirror.

They are 2 wires bonded on the windshield horizontal. Each goes out about 6 inches from the mirror on each side. They have a bonding pad to make a connection, and it looks like factory velcro just under the mirror. There are no wires from the headliner down to the windshield wires. I wonder if they might be an antenna for the optional phone that year???? Thanks
