Please let us know. I had one this past week that I had a heck of time starting. The water pump flew apart and I had to move it to my garage. I washed the engine. Put new plugs, did the oil trick, blew out the cylinders with air, let it set overnight with plugs out. I tried everything. I finally had the battery charger, a good charged battery and my truck all hooked up to it. It finally started with all that back up. Hopefully yours won't be as bad as this car was.

They are telling me that both fuel pumps are shot and want $1700 for both installed. Of course there is a list of other things they want me to do for a whopping $9500, but they are out of luck there.

It surprises me that it could possibly be the fuel pumps because she was running so well...

What do you think?

In a no start situation you should always check for codes, fuel pressure and spark. If you do not do this you are only fooling yourself.

As for the laundry list from the dealership, at times I would get so upset with the mechanic for pointing out things I did not tell him to do or to look into. What I did not realize is that he or she is doing me a favor. To bring this information to my attention gives me the option to ignore it or get it fixed by me or who I select to do it.

As for the pumps look at it this way, the only added expense is the extra pump. With the taking the tank out to replace a fuel pump you should replace both anyway. The only problem with this is that you are paying dealership prices that on the most part are higher than other options. You should have the wiring checked at the same time, I understand they can have problems as well.

Got the car back and it is running well. They installed new fuel pumps. Told me there are 2, but when I called another dealer, they said there is only 1... Oh well, makes sense because it did try to catch with the starter fluid.

I did new plugs, brakes, lof, af, pumps, and spent $4300.

Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to let her warm up before shutting her down!

Don't flog yourself too hard about the plugs. If it starts after new plugs, it was the wait or the "unflooding", not the plugs.

XJ8 has one pump, your XJR has two.
