2000 XJR- quick opinion on problems. any hope for the car? knowledge needed!
Recently I purchased a 2000 Jaguar XJR with 85k miles. The car DOES have Nikasil-i checked for this by way of the VIN number. There is a "clacking" sound from the engine... hard to tell from where when it is first started. One tech at the ford dealer (not knowing I was the car owner) asked about a "statup issue" with the car as he passed by... he concluded by saying "it doesnt sound very good". These guys were ford and not "full" jaguar service techs. I am within the bounds of the lemon law as far as returning the car to the dealer in AZ. (I live in PA) BUT the dealer (from whom I made the purchase) said that the issue can be attributed a misfire in cylinder #1.. stating that if this were fixed, the other warning/fault codes would resolve and the car would run fine. I am wondering how this is possible? If you guys think this is possible? Immediatly upon delivery of the car by-the-way I had the good ol' TRAC NOT AVAILABLE, ASC NOT AVAILBLE flashing on the message center... The car would then go into "limp mode" after about 10 minutes of diving or idling. The seller insists that these matters will br resolved by reparing the misfire... I dont know about that. What do you think?... is the car dying a slow death as I suspect. Breifly, here are all the error codes associated with the cars ills.
5 Active Codes:
PO301- cylinder one misfire
P1316 - misfire rate exceeds emissions
PO351- coil pack ignition pack “A”-primary and secondary malfunction
P1642 - CAN link circuit. (CAN=Controller area electrics)
P1000- SEE BELOW, 3 causes…
Included are 3 active monitors:
COMP
EVAP
02
also are...
MISFIRE (clylinder 1)
FUEL
CATLYST
O2 HTR
EGR- exhaust gas recirculator
(*RAIDO ANTENNA DID NOT WORK- MADE HORRIBE NOISE FOR APPROX 30-40 SECS AND DID NOT EXTEND--> IT STILL DOES NOT EXTEND AND MAKES THIS NOISE-->service tech said this caused by a sensor which also prevents the front right turn signal from operating? )
let me know if this car is salvagable/worth the trouble...title wash? tx-az?
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO REVIEW THIS MATTER!!!

If it were me, I'd return it pronto.
Prolonged cylinder misfire may have damaged your cats by the sound of it. That's gonna cost you.
If the P1646 is truly a broken a-drum in the tranny (found here), that's gonna cost you. You got the wrong Pcode identifier...happens all the time. P1000, same thing...its a diagnostic saying that drive cycles were not completed prior to the last code clearing...surprise surprise!
