If sign of insanity is to keep repeating stupid decisions and expecting different outcomes I'm the crowd prince of that. Just bought third later model XJ Supercharged I knew before I even test drove it what the screen was going to say: Faults, faults and faults. If you put a piece Iof black paper over the screen you'd have a wonderful time and not be annoyed by the retardo fault messages.. Put a new battery in: fault message uncorrected. Are these English dudes drunk when they program ? Do I have to buy that Gizmo thar clears them out. ? I've tried all the wonderful hack ideas nothing eliminates the suspension, matery and motor faults
I can't speak to suspension faults, they likely require a special scanner, but motor faults can usually be scanned for free at auto part stores (advance auto parts, autozone, etc). If the faults aren't clearing after battery reset, there's likely an actual issue with the motor. If you're talking about a battery fault, you might want to get your alternator checked; this can also usually be done for free at auto parts stores.
If you just want the messages to leave your odometer, you can hold the clear button to the right of the gauge cluster.
If you get your codes scanned, write them down and you can look them up or relay them to us; hopefully it'll be a simple fix.
The fault message is telling you something is wrong, the codes will tell you what. Fix the problems the codes tell you and the fault messages will go away.
