98 XJR - dipped headlights work working
Hello all,
About a week ago I noticed that my dipped beams stopped working (both outer circle lights). The side lights and full beams work fine (inner circles) , as do all the other exterior lights. I have checks the relevant fuses and relays, which are all fine. Both bulbs are fine. Voltage is going to both sides too.
A few years ago, I had the issue of the lights flickering when indicating. The column stalk was changed at that time and resolved that issue.
I thought the wires may have become disconnected on the stalk, so I took off the steering wheel, etc, to check the stalk, but all the wires are firmly soldered on.
Any ideas where the fault may lie?
Thanks.

Voltage is going across both bulb sockets, or the relays? If the sockets show 12v but don't light the bulbs you've got a frayed wire or grounding fault or something preventing enough current from reaching the bulbs.
Do you have the electrical guide?

Only checked the bulb sockets - both have 12v. Didn't check the relays. Although 12v at bulbs would mean relays are fine?
I don't have an electrical guide, no.

I agree with Nilanium.
It sounds like high resistance. Think of it as having horsepower but no torque. Without looking at a wiring diagram, I think the grounds for the headlights are behind the light housings if I'm not mistaken?? Basically checking all the grounds within the engine bay would be a great idea anyways.

For some reason the electrical PDF's aren't included in the jaguarforums large files area. In any case, found them here JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
