99xj8 4.0 being replaced with 98 xj8 4.0

is there any way w/o changing heads to swap the 98 xj8 engine into 99 xj8 car?

two different engines came within those years. AJ26 and AJ27. they are similar in shape but have major electronic and internal mechanical differences. Recommend that you get the AJ27 engine.
