RE: After market Double Din radio
You cannot add a double din stereo to a '98 XJ8, there is not enough [height]space for it.
I have upgraded mine to an aftermarket single din flip out monitor- but apparently no one even makes a fasica adapter for an aftermarket single din.
I will have to custom make one, either out of fibre glass or mdf (then covered with matching vinyl).

Hi, I have a navigation system for your car I'd be interested in selling. I have a Pioneer Avic-N1 that I had in my 98 jag xj8 before i totaled it. It's sitting in a box right now but has all the components. I paid 1500 for it brand new. I also have a custom made adapter unit that looks really really clean in the spot. The nav system is a touch screen dvd/nav/cd/mp3. It's a flip up screen with removable faceplate. I have pictures of it and the adapter if you're interested. I'm looking to get 500 out of it. It was only in my car for 8 months before i totaled it.

Ok a few people have been asking me about my radio. Here are some pics, and it can fit into any 98-03 jaguar xj. I know 98 to 03 for sure but i'm not sure about the models before 98. Also have remote start viper alarm system and MB quart door speakers and tweeters that fit the same model of jaguar also. I had a really nice set up once upon a time in my 98 jag before it was wrecked. I think I still have pictures of the setup I had when it was in its prime. Had two twelves in the back also. All total i spent 5000 on this whole system.

That nav system has a 6.5 inch flip up screen by the way. Doesn't come with the navigation CD's but they can be ordered from Ebay. Plus you'd want the newest version of the CD's anyway. So if you're interested in buying it just send me a message. I'm looking for 500 firm, and it will fit right into your own jaguar. I'd put it in my 00 XJR but I didn't want to put subs in the trunk again. Plus I'm kinda over the whole system thing. I like having a speedy jag and the system was a lot of weight in the trunk. By the way for all of you XJR owners I ran my xjr against a 97 Camaro SS with an autoand beat the SOB.

RE: After market Double Din radio
A standard double din unit will not fit on the X308/XJ8- there is simply not enough space.
But what I have seen been done isjust a flat screen put in at an angle with a custom leather surround- looks great- must have taken quite a bit of work. Even my surround for my flip out monitor tooksome doing- end result is great though.

hell yeah, it looks sexy as hell!
the screen is motorized? it seems to get awfully close to the shifter knob when it is coming out. after it's out it looks good.
did you fabricate the leather looking surface around the unit?
it doesnt get in the way of the ventilation controls?
how much did that kenwood cost you? what features does it have?
sorry for all the questions, it's very sweet set up though!!![sm=happybounce.gif]

The unit screen passes the gear knob as it an aftermarket one (much shorter stub). The unit is a KVT-729DVD- sat nav, tv, dvd, usb, etc, with a fully motorised screen.
Yes, the ventilation controls do get covered but not something that doesn't reallybothers me, the unit still can operate with the screen closed- via addtionsbuttons (see previous pics) or indeed a fully functional remote. Ideal, would of course bea customin-dash screen- but this requires a lot more work.
Here are the pics of the surround build process(random order):

This is the in-dash screen I was talking about. Unfortunately, I had already completedmy setup then saw this post else I would have given it a go myself
