Default Auto Boot Opening.

One thing I love about the XJ is when you press the Boot Switch and the actuator makes that whirling noise. But like the S-type (x200) the Auto Boot Opening is just something I would like. Is this possible without rewiring to the SLCM?

I don't know about the system the s type uses but in theory you could build something that replaces one of the hydraulic struts for the trunk with an actuator, toggled on by the same signal that triggers the latch. Not easy, though. There might be other ways.

Like nilanium, I am unfamiliar with the S-types. From the pics I reviewed, the nitrogen cylinders are in a totally different angle. The channel looks twice as wide to accommodate those cylinders also. With the X308's large steel lid and poor angle for the nitrogen cylinders, that may be difficult. I know when I replaced my cylinders, I played around looking for a somewhat easy way to insert another larger cylinder that length, without too much engineering, if at all. I even considered counterweighting the arms, like a French Trebuchet, but the gas tank makes that a task. I have kind of tailed off in my search, other projects and not seemingly important, but it should be possible??

Why?

It's just going to fully pop open in a thunderstorm when
you would rather just open a bit.

Looks complicated. To plums - a bit more modern.

Exactly, I consider it a feature and is the same on the X300

I thought about this off and on, then came to the same conclusion that popping all the way open doesn't really help, but staying partially closed does have an advantage.

The S-Type doesn't use the nitro filled struts, it uses springs located on each side of the trunk/boot hinges. You get the "auto open " feel because the springs are put into a loaded setting, so when hitting the trunk/boot release, the springs want to naturally release opening the lid.

You could look into getting the struts that are electronic like on the X351 which could be expensive though, and setting it up to work on a 308, I'm sure it can be done. Otherwise you're probably better off leaving it.
