Approximately how much does it cost to have the tensioners upgraded/replaced and independent shops? I've seen the $600 figure, is that for a shop to do it, or just for the parts to do it? I'm assuming that is labor and parts, but I don't want to assume.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area if that helps.

Ford parts for the upgrade, tensioners and bolts, are about $130, FelPro gasket set about $40. Labor about 4 hours. Labor rates vary widely. Some will only provide parts.

Not a difficult job, if you would try to replace spark plugs you can do this.
