It's snowing (semi heavy) here in chicago. I was trying to get out of my snowed in parking spot and suddenly the 'battery not charging' and battery icon showed up on my dash. It also seemed as if I lost power (hard to tell because my wheels were spinning), and I definitely lost power steering. My battery in the trunk and ground strap seem fine. Is it possible I knocked something at the alternator?

 

If your battery is not charging and you have no power steering you have a broken serpentine accessory drive belt. That would be my guess.
