Best 3rd party extended warranty ?
Seen a few advertised on TV & online was looking for one for my 2001 XJ8L when it comes time to address the timing chain tensioners etc. I've hit a couple websites expecting to receive a quote emailed to me, only to get a high pressured phone pitch. Any suggestions, thanks.
I bought my X308 in April 2012 and considered getting an extended warranty to 100,000 miles since it had under 65,000 at the time. I spoke with a couple of salesmen who didn't know their asses from a hole in the ground but sure knew how to put on the pressure. One thing that most/all of them require is a 30 day waiting period before putting in any claims. This makes sense to me, it stops people from signing up when the car is at the garage waiting for a new transmission!
Well, fast forward to almost 2 years later -- I've spend probably $2,500 on what would've been covered repairs (I think), with about $1,000 of that being due to my own fault (long story that starts with "I should've taken my time...").
So, I think the best extended warranty is a bank account. Major repairs can certainly be costly (I had my transmission rebuilt for around $1,500) but most of the repairs can be done yourself. If I had had the 2002 or earlier model with the timing chain tensioner woes, I might've gone for the extended warranty just in case the chain went while driving it!
Good luck and let us know what you decide and why.

Yea I'd wait likely 2 months before I made a claim, these companies claim they will send you your quote via email, yet never do but call twice a day. Can't follow simple protocol, not worthy of my funds nor trust.
